The 2013 Lauren Beam Foundation 5K River Run is our inaugural race, and we are excited to begin a new annual tradition to celebrate Lauren Beam’s life and raise money for young men and women battling cancer.
After Lauren passed away in September 2011, Lauren’s fanclub of supporters (Team Beam), spontaneously organized an informal run in Central Park as a way to keep her unbelievable spirit and sheer determination alive. This annual run was born from that day, and represents something Lauren loved to do – run – as well as something that helps the human spirit defy the effects of cancer and fighting it.
Start the 5K race at Pier 46 and run south along the Hudson River. Turn right onto Pier 25 and run around the Pier. Exit to the right and run south to the turnaround at Chambers Street. Then head north, straight up the river for about 1.4 miles. Go past the start line and head to the last turnaround which is south of West 12th. Return south to the finish at Pier 46.
Spectators can catch the race anywhere along the race route in Hudson River Park. The start and finish line are at PIER 46 and there are great viewing spots at the turnaround at Pier 25. Subway options include the 1 train to Christopher Street, or a little further away the A, B, C, D, E, F or M trains to West 4th Street.
