Empire State Building Run-Up
Join the MMRF Endurance Team at the Empire State Building Run-Up on February 5, 2014. We are thrilled to have official charity partner status of this marquee event.
The race starts in the lobby of the most famous building in New York City. When the gun goes off, a wave of selected MMRF athletes will burst through the staircase door and up 86 flights of stairs in the Empire State Building Run-Up. A quick 1,576 steps will get you from the ground floor to the final lap around the Observation Deck that looms nearly a quarter mile above 5th Avenue.
For the last 36 years, the small field of participants in this event has been filled by invitation only by the New York Road Runners. Now, though our partnership with the NYRR, the MMRF will once again host a charity wave of MMRF runners.
Invited athletes are committing to raise $2500 for the MMRF, and will get a chance to participate in this one-of-a-kind event and earn the bragging rights that they conquered the world's most famous ‘vertical marathon'. Finishers are awarded a special NYRR “Empire Run-Up” medal, a rare addition to even the most die-hard runner's medal collection!
There are two parts to this registration. Today, you must fill out this form and pay a registration fee of $125. This is your only cost. You will receive a MMRF technical team jersey, which you are required to wear on race day. We will contact you closer to the event with a special NYRR link to complete the registration process.
Note that participants must be in good physical health. Though the average finishing time is expected to be between 20-30 minutes, this is a climb that will not only tire your legs, but get your heart beating – fast!
The MMRF will be with you every step of the way, from the moment you sign up to the incredible moment you cross the finish line on the 86th floor. Participating in this event on this very special team may prove to be one of the most empowering and inspiring experiences of your life.
About the MMRF and Multiple Myeloma
The mission of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) is to relentlessly pursue innovative means that accelerate the development of next-generation multiple myeloma treatments to extend the lives of patients and lead to a cure. The MMRF is the world's largest private funder of myeloma research. An outstanding 90% of all funds raised are budgeted for cancer research and related programming. Multiple myeloma is an incurable blood cancer. Although progress has been made in treating multiple myeloma, the five-year survival rate remains one of the lowest of all cancers.
Why Run for our Team?
Our teams raise funds and awareness for cancer research. Many members of our teams have a direct connection to multiple myeloma. Others join us to support a game-changing cancer organization that is transforming the way that medical research and drug development are being conducted. All team members are proud to support an organization that consistently recognized in the top 1% of nonprofits rated by charity evaluators like Charity Navigator.
