Silk aquatint has the richness of mezzotint, the spontaneity of action-painting, the washes of a water color and the vivacious surface of a palette knife impasto, all without acid. This collagraphic plate-making method is created with acrylic paint: applying white acrylic onto a dark field. The resulting plates are intaglio printed through an etching press with oil-based and/or water-based ink and can last for over one-hundred impressions. This hands-on course is geared towards painters with or without prior printmaking experience.
