What's Included

Design Camp seeks to develop skills in graphic design for motivated high school artists. Created and supervised by Mason Gross faculty, the curriculum focuses on core principles of design while also introducing relevant software. The course includes focused studio work, technical demonstrations, group critiques and a field trip to New York City. Students will become familiar with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign while exploring creative visual problems and producing work suitable for a college admissions portfolio. The emphasis is on building visual awareness and on making the software serve the designer’s creative vision. Design Camp also features a Portfolio Workshop addressing how to present work effectively for college admissions. Design Camp uses traditional classroom space as well as top-notch computer lab facilities in the Department of Visual Arts at the Mason Gross School of the Arts on the New Brunswick Campus of Rutgers University. • Level I: For those new to, or with beginner skills in, Adobe programs • Level II: For those with intermediate skills in Adobe programs Learn from professional, working designers Explore creative visual problems Participate in visual presentations, focused studio work, technical demonstrations and group critiques. Add to your toolbox as you work with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign Cultivate visual awareness while learning to make software serve your creative vision Produce work suitable for a college admissions portfolio Portfolio Workshop - Learn to present work effectively for college admissions Top-notch facilities - computer labs and printers Visit professional design studios in NYC Location: All camp activities are held in the Civic Square Building in downtown New Brunswick, NJ, home to the Mason Gross School of the Arts Visual Arts Department. Students of all ages and stages of ability develop their skills and pursue their passion under the direction of our exceptional teaching artists.
