Brief Description

A cross country mountain bike and fat bike race on a loop course on snow-packed trails on a variety of terrain. A Race 20-25 Miles. B Race 10-15 Miles. Lunch included. Derby to follow after lunch. Bring some cash ($5.00 in ones is ideal) for the kitty of the Derby.

What the Heck is a Derby?

Derby can take almost any form we like. The track is often in a parking lot or some other very short course on snow or ice. All riders put some cash in the jar and the last rider on their bike goes home with the cash. If you put a foot down for support or crash, you are out of the race. If you are lapped by the lead rider, you are out of the race. Depending on the number and enthusiasm of participants, there can be multiple derbies and different categories.

What Kind of Bike Do I Need?

A standard mountain bike will work fine on hard-packed snow. Studded tires are an improvement in icier conditions and a Fat Bike will offer more floatation in softer conditions. The loop course format of this race means riders will be able to chose on the day to go longer or shorter depending on conditions.

What About Sunday?

There will be group rides organized on Sunday on any of the hundreds of miles of snowmobile trails in the area. Rides are to be determined at the race on Saturday.

Additional Information

Christmas Hills Road is expected to be snow-packed and icy, 4wd or chains recommended. Alternate Start/Finish is St. Maries Lodge AF&AM on the corner of 8th and College Ave in case we can't plow up to the Christmas Hills warming hut. You will be contacted in case of venue change.
