Brief Description

The Swank 65 Mountain Bike Journey is mountain bike racing at it’s most primeval, far removed from civilization and polluted air. The race begins at 2500 feet, and consists of a triad of cloverleaf shaped loops winding around Gloucester Gap. Rolling over rugged mining roads, fun single track, tough climbs and hell-raising descents, the exhilarating course will test your skills and desire as you explore the devilish terrain of the Pisgah National Forest. 42 miles (65K) in length.

Start

A controlled mass start will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. Race meeting at Start line at 9:45. Every racer must attend meeting.

Location

From the entrance of Pisgah Forest at the corner of US 64 and Hwy 276/280 go north on Hwy 276. After 4.5 miles, take a left onto F.S. Rd. (475-A). Travel 475-A for 3 miles, Cove Creek group campground on right.

Rest Stops / First Aid

There will be three fully-stocked rest stops on the course. The rest stops have food, Heed Energy Drink, and H20. We have a drop system organized so you can arrange to have your personal supplies at the rest stops. First Aid will be at every rest area and Start/Finish area. Restroom facilities are also at Start/Finish.

$100 Entry Fee includes an exciting race course, three completely-stocked rest-stops, camping, awards party with a home-style burger cookout, and a super sweet Tshirt. Sign up early to assure your part in the SWANK 65.

No race day trades. All trades must be done by Friday, November 5th.
We do not carryover entries to another year.

Camping

Free camping will be available in the peaceful cove around the Start/Finish area of Lower Cove Creek group campground Saturday and Sunday nights. There is one large fire ring. No personal fires at campsites. Cooking flames o.k.

Weather

Weather mid November in the forest is generally 40-50 degrees around race time and can either warm up to the 60’s or drop in the low 40’s. Riders saw snowflakes in 2002. Be prepared for all conditions!

Parking

Parking is limited due to rules governing parking in Pisgah’s group campgrounds. There will be 75 parking passes available. Each pass will be good for one vehicle with at least two racers. There will be an attendant at the gate checking parking passes. If you do not have a pass, race personnel will not let you in the campground. Please email us at epicrides@gmail.com with the name of the racer you will be carpooling with and we will distribute a pass to you.
