Description
The Portage Health System Keweenaw Chain Drive Festival mountain bike race includes 16- and 32-mile point-to-point cross-country distance races and the Junior Chain Drive youth races. The challenging 16-mile and 32-mile cross-country races traverse the Maasto Hiihto/ Churning Rapids trail system in Hancock. The courses are only marked once a year and include miles of singletrack and lots of elevation change. Must register by May 31st to receive a bamboo t-shirt with your registration! ONLINE REGISTRATION CLOSES WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15 BUT YOU CAN REGISTER ON SITE UNTIL 9:30AM RACE DAY.
Distance events will begin with a 10 a.m. roll-out at the Best Western Franklin Square Inn, at the east end of Shelden Avenue in downtown Houghton.
The Junior Chain Drive for riders 14 & Under (.5 miles-3 miles, depending on age) will be held at the Portage Health campus in Hancock with onsite registration only from 2pm-3pm with races starting at 3:30pm.
The Chain Drive promotes the sport of mountain biking through fun family events and supports trail preservation efforts throughout the Keweenaw Peninsula. All funds raised by the festival will go to trail improvement, access and acquisition projects in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties.
