Brief Description

BHP Billiton is proud to sponsor the 2011 Rock and Ice Ultra, the first in what will eventually become a series of endurance and adventure races organized by Northern Canadian Adventure Racing Inc. The Rock and Ice Ultra consists of three endurance races: the 45 km Cold Foot Classic, the 135 km K-Rock Ultra and the 225 km Diamond Ultra. Competitors can run and snowshoe or XC-ski.

Is there a purse?

Racers are competing for the most unique purse in adventure and endurance racing history; over $37,000 in genuine Canadian Diamonds from EKATI Diamond Mine; Canada's first Diamond Mine.

COLD FOOT CLASSIC

K-ROCK ULTRA

DIAMOND ULTRA:

Solo: $3000

In a recent climate study of Canada's 100 largest cities, Yellowknife ranked first in 13 categories, including:

THE RACES

Cold Foot Classic:
A 45 km, continuous foot and snowshoe or XC ski race. Compete solo or as a 2 - 3 member relay. The Cold Foot Classic is a fully supported race. There are 3 road accessible check points along a well marked, untracked trail and racers are encouraged to cache food, gear or have a support crew on stand by.

K-Rock Ultra:
A 135 km foot and snowshoe or XC ski race. Open to solo competitors only. The K-Rock Ultra is a partially supported, 3-day / 3-stage race following a well marked, untracked trail. Racers are required to pack a duffle bag including all the necessary food and equipment for camp. The duffle bag will be transported to stage camps by Air Tindi bush plane.

Diamond Ultra:
A 225 km foot and snowshoe or XC ski race. Open to solo competitors only. The Diamond Ultra is a self-supported, 6 day / 6-stage race following a well marked trail. There will be a food and gear chache on day 3. Racers are required to pack a kit including all the necessary food and equipment to survive for the duration of the race. Racers must also possess basic navigational and map reading skills.
