Brief Description

Sand Spring River Race is adventure racing at its finest. This race will consist of trail running, mountain biking, canoeing, and a mystery event.You will not need to know how to orienteer to complete this race. Each participant will thoroughly enjoy running and biking on the natural trails as they parallel the beautiful Niangua River near Bennett Spring State Park. From the novice to the highly competitive, Sand Spring River Race is truly an event all can enjoy.

Additional Information

The Sand Spring River Race is considered a sprint race, which will typically take less than six hours to complete. During the race you will canoe, mountain bike, and run. We will provide the canoe and paddles. You will not be allowed to use your own. The course will be marked, but a course map will be provided before the start of the race. The race will begin with a short run and followed by a four mile canoe sprint. The race will conclude with trail running, a mystery event, and mountain biking. The mystery event is not designed to test your mental capabilities. Distances for the event: Canoe: 4 miles Mountain Biking: 10 miles Trail Running: 4-6 miles * Sand Spring River Race Rules * Failure To Comply will Result In Automatic Disqualification 1. Teams must be self-supporting and carry their own gear, including portage of canoe to designated location(s). 2. Water will be available at some transition sites to refill water bottles and hydration bladders. 3. Teams cannot stash gear or leave anything behind on the course, including trash! 4. Teams must start and finish each course section with required equipment. 5. Teams must park bikes and gear in staging area. We are not responsible for misplacement. 6. Teams cannot receive support from anyone along the race course, except for medical personnel. 7. Both team members must complete each section before team can proceed to next section. a. A wrist band will be worn by Team Captain and will be punched at each designated checkpoint. b. Both team members must cross the finish line together 8. Racers must wear a bike helmet that is buckled on the bike course. No rock climbing or kayaking helmets. Tandem bikes are not allowed. 9. Teams must keep the life vests in their canoes. 10. Teams must stay on race course. The course will be marked and observers will be monitoring race participants. 11. If one member drops out of the race, an official must be notified at the nearest checkpoint. The other team member can continue but will not qualify as a finisher. A vehicle will be available if needed to transport team member back to registration area. 12. An official FINISH is when both team members cross the finish line together with the check card fully punched. All other teams will be marked “DQ” (Disqualified), “DNF” (Did Not Finish), or PTF (Partial Team Finish). 13. Racers can seek medical assistance without disqualification. St. John’s paramedics have the final decision in allowing a racer to continue after seeking medical attention. Race officials can hold a racer for paramedic clearance before allowing them to continue the race. 14. Restroom facilities/port-a-potties are located at Sand Spring Resort and Riverfront Campground 15. No drugs, alcohol, or pets on the race course. 16. No littering or violating proper outdoor ethics. 17. Good sportsmanship at all times please. 18. Race Director reserves the right to disqualify a team for any reason
