Turtle Tuesday (ages 5-11) January 26th 9am – 4pm $65 This camp is only for the most enthusiastic, terrapin crazy, tortoise-tastic, beak bonkers, shell wearing, turtle enthusiasts on the planet! It’s Turtle Power!! Campers will meet our brand new baby terrapins, that were rescued by Federal Authorities in Alaska, from smugglers that had stuffed them into snow boots and were trying to leave the country! The terrapins are now famous, making the front page of the local newspaper, and they are definitely glad to be in their new home at EA, where they will help children learn all about the importance of turtles in the Chesapeake. Campers will take a hands-on role in helping us monitor the baby terrapins health/growth by assisting in their weekly check-up. That involves, measuring, weighing, cleaning, feeding, and training them!!! If terrapins aren’t enough to satisfy your turtle craving then hold on tight, because we’ve got more different types of shelled reptiles than you can shake a stick at….and some we even have to shake a stick at, because they SNAP! Kids will learn the in’s and out’s of all things turtles…where they live, what they eat, how they have fun, what’s the differences between aquatic and terrestrial, do box turtles really live in a box, are soft shelled turtles really soft, do sea turtles only live in the sea, what’s a tortoise…a turtle…a terrapin…oh my, and all in fun filled, hands-on encounters. During this camp your child will become good friends with our resident behemoth “Big Mac”, over 40 lbs of snapping turtle goodness, as well as our snapper baby, “Chicken Nugget” that can fit in the palm of your hand! There will be lots of live turtles on hand, in addition to fun filled games, turtle races, arts and crafts, and a whole lot more. It’s everything you need to know…so to speak…about those critters with a shell and a beak!!!
