About This Activity

DIVISIONS (3 person Co-Ed teams are the official divisions for prizes) solo, 2 or 3 person teams (Co-Ed, all male or female teams). Two distances to choose from: 2-4 hr or 8-12 hr

Join in the adventure of the 5th annual running of the most epic race in Kansas! Beginners and seasoned teams alike will experience the rugged beauty of the Flint Hills, like no other way possible.

THE COURSE DETAILS

Obviously, it';s an Adventure--too many details would spoil that. But in general, there will be navigation, canoing, trekking (running or hiking), mountain biking, ropes and other challenges. The team that completes all the checkpoints (or more than other teams) with the fastest time will win the race. There will be several checkpoints that are mandatory (transition areas), but most are not--meaning a team could choose to skip checkpoints and shorten the course for themselves and still have an official finish--though probably not place in the top 10.

The navigation will require plotting of UTMs on a 1:24000 Topo map, basic understanding of terrain features and distance measure. There will be very few rules of travel, teams will choose their own route/strategy (with mode of travel specified for checkpoints).

Their will be ropes challenges on the course (weather dependent), including rappelling and climbing. No prior experience is required. Other challenges are also likely.

Race Support/Rules: These are unsupported courses. There will NOT be water stations on the course, prepare accordingly. The only course authorized to obtain additional food/water/clothing from own gear supplies is the Expedition Course (approx 1/2 way through). Expedition teams may bring a rubbermade or other closeable/durable storage container with

additional clothing, drinks and food (large or small as long as everything fits and it closes--mark it with your team name). NO GPS device is authorized and use will result in immediate disqualification.

Registration includes: navigation class, watercraft/ropes gear rental, topo maps, tshirts, post race dinner, showers at race finish and awards.
