The event has offered the Family and Advanced rides, and in 2013 is featuring a new route called "Survive Smyth County." The Survival ride is a metric century (100k) designed to challenge even the most experienced riders. While all three rides offer country roads, beautiful views, and fresh mountain air, "Survive Smyth County" is an extreme thrill that takes challengers from the springs of the valleys to the tops of the mountains. There will be one water station for the Family and Advanced Rides and three stations for the Survival Ride that will offer drinks, snacks, and first aid. A lead car will escort riders from Hungry Mother State Park to the first turn of the route, and a sweep car will also be available. While these rides are not a race, times will be kept for all cyclists. Registration includes lunch and all participants will receive a t-shirt, with a special design for Survive Smyth County. Survivors will also receive a medal honoring their accomplishment and be eligible for the Grand Prize: a cycling GPS system. All participants will be eligible for door prize drawings! Proceeds from this event will benefit the Mel Leaman Free Clinic of Smyth County. Smyth County is a great place to ride: Gear up and challenge yourself at Bike Smyth County!
