Coyote Road School is a family-operated business offering local outdoor programs in San Luis Obispo County. We are part of a large network of outdoor educators using the philosophy of coyote mentoring to engage students in active participation in outdoor exploration, discovery, and living.
Our Mission is to teach lifelong skills in nature awareness and outdoor living and provide experiences that create a positive and lasting connection with the Earth.
We offer a number of camps that are experiential, fun, and educational.
Naturalist 1: Foundation Skills for Exploring Nature - Designed to build a foundation of nature knowledge through outdoor exploration and provide experience within our broad curriculum, we provide a fun, educational environment that deepens a child’s connection with nature.
Naturalist 2: Earth Crafts & Skills - The second in a series: This How-to camp is very project-based and we start our week by learning about fire: how and from where to collect wood, how to set up the fire-structure, and how to tend the fire safely. Fire becomes a central thread throughout the week as we use it to make bowls, spoons, and clay products.
Marine 1: Intertidal & Salt Marsh - We’ll investigate the unique estuary environment first hand with its many birds and varied plant life; discover what lives below the Tideland’s Park dock; explore the harbor’s shoreline and glimpse the Peregrine that live on Morro Rock; we’ll canoe across the bay to track animals on the Sand Spit, and explore the Natural History Museum.
Marine 2: Dunes & Sandy Beaches - This unique program explores the dune and beach environments of the Morro Bay Estuary and Montana de Oro State Park.
Marine 3: Freshwater Creeks & Streams - The freshwater streams and streams week will focus on the plant, insect, and animal life that frequent or live in riparian ecosystems, including the Ferocious Water Beetle.
Monterey Bay Aquarium Adventure - Join us on this incredible adventure to the Monterey bay!
