The Big Boat Program is designed for sailors who want to explore larger, cruising, and"offshore" boats. This is a great program for sailors who are looking for a new and challenging sailing experience, or who have simply outgrown dinghies. A basic competence with sailing is required, whether from time spent sailing dinghies or bigger boats, and familiarity with a spinnaker is helpful. Sailors should be strong enough to handle the greater loads on sheets and halyards. Sailors will learn sail trim, coastwise navigation, anchoring and docking, and boat maintenance, all within the context of a big boat. Teaching will largely be "on-the-water"; classes will be taught by the boat owners themselves, a senior MSA instructor, and a member of the MSA Board of Directors, all experienced with big boats. This course is designed for ages 15 to 19.
