That is the reputation gained by this slice of forest goodness from mountain bikers throughout the region. We, along with the towns of the Lykens Valley, feel it is time for trail runners and hikers to find out why!

A short run on pavement starting from town to access the trails will offer a chance to spread out and make an early move or settle in before a challenging climb into the Rattling Creek trails takes you to the top of a wide unique central PA plateau of rolling singletrack. Dense beautiful summer foliage hemming in the trails will keep you on track as you make your way along Rattling Creek and Doc Smith trails to the day's checkpoint. The only extended bit of dirt road you'll see all day, 1 mile of it, takes you to the highpoint on the course at the start of HopBack Trail. Miles of singletrack ahead with the undulations of Rugged Tr. before you make your way back through the day's checkpoint. Your reverse trip on Doc Smith and Rattling Creek drop you almost 500 feet in the last mile of dirt before a final push on pavement to the finish line at the restored Lykens Train Station station awaits.
The course has been mapped at just under 13 miles via TopoFusion software and offers approximately 1800 feet of elevation gain over that distance with the biggest chunk coming between 0.5 and 1.5 miles into the course.
There is a chance that the course will change slightly between now and race day.
