InterVarsity’s New York City Urban Project exists to develop individuals into leaders with the character and capacity to change the world! New York City will be our classroom as we spend 6 days becoming people who don’t just WANT TO DO GOOD but people who ACTUALLY DO GOOD! Students who attend NYCUP’s Spring Break Plunge will spend 6 days learning to fight sex-trafficking and labor slavery, exploitation of people and the planet and practical steps to love your neighbors every day. And all of this will be done in Amazing Race style! During the day, our justice scavenger hunt will take you all over NYC to meet leaders, serve those in need and step outside of your comfort zone to learn just how other people live. We begin and end each day with prayer, workshops, and reflections because we believe that to transform lives, we need to transform our own lives first. We can’t testify to a freedom that we don’t know anything about. So, let’s get to work! Guilt, shame, obligation, fear, anger and praise for ourselves are NOT reasons to do justice. But it is only by the transformative power of the Love of God that we serve. Faith without works is dead and works without faith is slavery; we are most certainly free. People of all faiths are welcome to attend as long as you are willing to grapple with faith, justice and how that impacts this world. Registration fees include food, lodging, materials and transportation once in the city. Transportation to NYC must be paid for by the participant.
