Use the drag and drop Scratch computer language to learn the basics of programming. In this course, students will learn how to use algorithms, loops, conditionals, and other techniques to write their own computer programs. By the end of the 20 week course, students will be able to program their own simple games, like "Flappy Bird". Class meets on Thursdays. Coursework will cover sessions 3 and 4, so please plan to attend both of those sessions. Students will need a free Code.org account. This course is based on the Code.org Elementary Course 2. Please create a free Code.org account at home. I will send enrolled students a code to add me as their teacher through Code.org so I can monitor their progress. All work will be done in class. Each session will include a simple lesson on a programming technique followed by in class programming practice. I will also be providing supplementary material and discussion to enhance the class. Each student will need a laptop or tablet to use in class. All coursework is through Code.org on the web. If the student's device works with Code.org, then it will work for my classroom. It makes no difference if the OS is Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, etc.
