We invite you to become a part of the 1st Annual DSNOCC Buddy Walk! The Buddy Walk was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October and to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. The Buddy Walk is a one-mile walk in which anyone can participate without special training. Since its inception, the Buddy Walk has grown from 17 walks to over 300 expected in 2012 across the country. We are proud to bring this wonderful, heart-warming event to our community for the first time.
The Down Syndrome Network of Onslow & Carteret Counties (DSNOCC), Inc. was established in 2011. Our mission is to connect families and to enhance the lives of people in our community with Down syndrome by providing emotional, educational, and social support to them and the professionals who serve them. We serve Onslow and Carteret Counties, as well as Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps Air Station New River, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, and the surrounding areas.
Of the funds raised from our Buddy Walk, 7% will go to the National Down Syndrome Society and 93% will go to our local organization to fund new baby and pediatrician information packets, as well as our website, quarterly newsletter, lending library, social events, guest speakers and more. We thank you for your support!
Please register early! While we will try to accommodate everyone, registrations placed after October 1st may not be guaranteed a shirt.
