Congratulations 2009 MCM Finishers!

On October 25, 2009, a combined 26,275 marathon and 10K runners crossed the MCM finish line, the largest number in the 34 year history of “The People’s Marathon.” Results are posted online.  Bravo Zulu!

Celebrating the 2009 Winners

Navy Lt. Cmdr. John Mentzer, 33, won the 2009 MCM with a time of 2:21:47. Jacob Johnson, 32, of Sherwood, AZ finished second in 2:25:02 and Salvador Miranda, 38, of Mexico was third with a time of 2:25:24.

The top female finisher was Ethiopian Muliye Gurmu, 25, with a time of 2:49:48. Air Force Capt. Jaymee Marty, 42, of Sacramento, CA, was the second female finisher at 2:50:15. Kyla Barbour, 31, of Atlanta, GA, was third at 2:50:47.

David Swope of New Windsor, MD was the top wheelchair division athlete finishing in 1:53:03.  Holly Koester of Cleveland, OH was the top female in the wheelchair division with a time of 3:51:39.  All age category winners will receive their awards in the mail. 

Wyatt Boyd, 25, of Washington, DC was the winner of the MCM10K with a time of 32:54. The top female MCM10K finisher was Kim Magee, 26, of Bloomington, MN, at 39:20.

An individualized webpage has been created for each of the 20,890 MCM finishers.  The page includes MarathonFoto images of the runner, split times, map track, message boards, social network sharing capabilities and finisher certificates (beginning in December).

35th Marine Corps Marathon Set for October 31, 2010

The Marine Corps Marathon celebrates 35 years in 2010.  Registration opens on April 7 for the 35th MCM to be held on October 31.  Active duty discount begins on March 4.  The MCM Run 2 Register 10K  on March 27 offers guaranteed early access to all finishers.  Find out if the MCM Expo Access Tour is visiting a marathon near you with special advance registration codes.  Any 2009 runners who deferred to the 2010 MCM must re-register between January 13 and April 6 --instructions will be emailed in January.

MCM Sponsors Make Race Day a Success

USAA awarded finisher coins.  Brooks hosted the VIP Porta Potty.  Nissan provided the pace car.  Aetna gave massages at the Expo. UPS took care of baggage.  Wal Mart supplied water.  The MCM thanks the many sponsors  that enhanced event weekend.

Remember no matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow. 
And with the arrival of spring, comes the Marine Corps Historic Half marathon on May 16.  Join the Marine Corps again, this time for a 13.1 mile run through Historic Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Five-time Finishers Join MCM Runners Club

Any runner who has finished the Marine Corps Marathon five or more times is eligible to join the prestigious MCM Runners Club.  Membership guarantees a spot in all future MCMs for life, plus special patches for each five-year milestone reached.  Runners Club registration for 2010 MCM will be available beginning in January.
