What's Included

When you enroll in Possum Pals Summer Camp as a Counselor in Training, you will learn a great deal about conservation, wildlife, the environment and leadership from our Education Camp Counselors. We will give you the training you need to develop your qualities of leadership, teamwork, respect, and responsibility when working with children of all ages. These skills are important in the job market today and will prepare you for leadership roles in future endeavors. This class can also benefit those who desire a career in early childhood education. Being a CIT provides teens that babysit to become a safe and responsible sitter for the children they care for. The orientation week is mandatory and you may select an additional week of your choice to complete the training. Time worked can be used toward SAT hours. We offer these classes in a fun and interesting outdoor environment making camp fun for everyone involved! Certificate of completion will be given at the close of the selected camp. * Hours may be shortened if extended Summer Camp is not purchased for children* Possumwood Acres uses nut products extensively, including peanuts, to feed the sanctuary residents. Please consider this fact for those with nut allergies or sensitivities.

About This Organizer

Possumwood Acres Wildlife Sanctuary is a 501(c)(3) non-profit wildlife rehabilitation center that offers an array of educational summer camps for children of all ages.  During their selected camp they will learn how to care safely for wild life in a supervised environment with our certified camp counselors and wild life handlers.  Our educators focus on different skills needed for wildlife care and preservation in our private re-created habitats. Students return year after year excited to interact with the animals they have bonded with, which in turn creates a lasting relationship with nature for years to come. As we exist solely on donations and grants (with the help of our dedicated volunteers), all funds collected for summer camps will be used to rehabilitate the animals your child will learn about. This aspect teaches children that their eargerness to learn has helped save the very animals they care for! They immediately feel a connection to our animals knowing their family has contributed to their well being.  As not all children have the opportunity to learn about, care for or bond with wildlife in their home environment safely, we encourage returning students to select a different camp each year to ensure they are recieving a variety of useful education. We currently hold state and federal licenses for wildlife rehabilitation, possession, and education which enables us to provide the best possible environment for your child to learn and have fun! Watch a short video of what we are all about and meet a few of the animals who call Possumwood Acres their home. See you at camp!
