What's Included

For new and returning students. Do you like to write stories, poems, or songs? Would you like to improve your writing skills in a relaxed setting? If so, this class is for you. Each week, we’ll gather together to do some reading, some talking, and a good amount of writing. In between sessions you may choose to keep a writer’s notebook to collect your inspirations. Each meeting will start with a brief yoga sequence, after which we may explore a short reading or jump directly into a writing prompt. Our weekly writing exercises will be creative and playful; you’ll draw inspiration for your writings from the world around you, including music, food, travel, the natural world, the internet, and your own life experiences. The class will emphasize finding enjoyment in the act of writing, as well as creating a community of young writers. Along the way, you’ll practice skills—such as making good word choices, using sensory detail, and clearly communicating an original idea—that will enhance all the writing you do, whether for school, for publication, or for yourself. 6 Classes Taught by Kate Westhaver
