African Leadership Academy (ALA) is the center of leadership development on the African continent, and the Global Scholars Program (GSP) is our laboratory. Under the guidance of ALA’s entrepreneurial leadership faculty, GSP is an opportunity for future leaders from around the globe to learn about the beauty, diversity, and opportunity of the African continent, connect with one another, and develop the skills necessary to become agents of positive change in their own communities. For a select group of secondary school students, GSP is a venue to share ideas, identify opportunities, and explore their own potential to bring widespread change to Africa.
At GSP, you will discover the history, energy, and enthusiasm of South Africa by spending three weeks on our campus outside of Johannesburg. Gain a new perspective through your African Studies discussions, and excursions to the Apartheid Museum, the Cradle of Humankind and Pilanesberg National Park. Learn from outstanding leaders and entrepreneurs at the forefront of the critical issues facing the continent today. Engage deeply with the community, identifying challenges and implementing innovative solutions to local problems. Put your leadership development and teambuilding skills to the test with thought-provoking activities and exercises.
GSP provides a unique opportunity to move beyond ‘volunteering’ and explore leadership in action. You will make meaningful contributions to social ventures launched by young, socially-conscious leaders like yourself. At the Kliptown Youth Program, you will learn from social entrepreneur Thulani Madondo and help tutor at-risk students in their afterschool program. At Emthonjeni Day Care, an organization founded by African Leadership Academy alumna Mbali Zondi, you will provide support for daily activities aimed at providing a strong educational foundation to at-risk children. Through these projects and more, GSP will give you the skills, connections, and the practice necessary to become an entrepreneurial leader in the 21st Century.
