What's Included

The Eighth Annual Summer Theatre Institute looks to carry forward the outstanding momentum created by last year's hit production of ADDAMS FAMILY. During daily rehearsals with our talented production staff, students will work in an environment that is comparable to the professional theatre. This is not theatre for the faint of heart. While students should expect to spend their days singing, acting and dancing, they'll also be unconsciously be creating the 'family' dynamic that is so prevalent throughout SSTI. While we have a strict, jam-packed schedule, our staff loves their work and their enthusiasm for doing quality theatre is infectious. Our out-of-town cast members will enjoy night time activities with resident assistants and staff (open to locals as well) and weekend day trips to experience the best that the Savannah/Hilton Head area has to offer. The Fourth Week program continues at SSTI 2015. This additional week is filled with guest artist workshops introducing students to a variety of theatrical techniques not covered during the first three weeks of rehearsal. In year's past our workshops have included focuses on Avenue Q puppetry, Advanced Improv study, a Fosse master class, Acting for the Camera, and of course our ever popular day with a Broadway star. While every guest artist experience is different, it is always a cherished time by our summer family.

About This Organizer

I am thrilled to welcome you to the web home of the Southeastern Summer Theatre Institute, formally the Savannah Summer Theatre Institute. For the past eight summers, SSTI has trained aspiring performers in the skill sets required to work in the world of professional theatre. The 7-hour rehearsal days are tests to the stamina, endurance and passion of the students involved. After only three weeks, the cast presents a product to the public that rivals many productions that prepare months in advance.

Like any profession, the art of theatre adheres to a strict set of regulations and standards that are often times impossible to teach in a school or community theatre environment. However, a summer camp offers the ideal opportunity to replicate professional theatre standards. If you’re looking for kayaks, cabins and 200 campers in a session, we’re not the program for you. But if you want focused training from a talented staff and a room filled with fellow cast members who’d rather be rehearsing than kayaking anyway, this is your home. In fact, we won’t ever even label you a ‘camper.’ We are more serious than that. At SSTI, you’re a Cast Member.

I hope that you will spend some time looking around our website, watching our videos, and looking at our galleries. These elements are all designed to give you, our prospective cast member, insight into the magic that is created annually on our campus. We have created the summer theatre experience that we always wanted to attend. I hope you’ll join us this summer. Register Today. Change Your Tomorrow.
