The Annual Janice Kelley Memorial Scholarship Run takes place on the scenic foothills at the base of Diamond Valley Lake in Hemet, California. The event remembers a woman who was a teacher, coach, mentor, friend and award-winning athlete in the Hemet Valley for decades.
As a student-athlete at Hemet, Kelley was a two-time Southern Section Division 2-A champion in the two-mile and placed fifth in the same event at the 1978 CIF-State Track Championships. She went on to be an All-American in track and field in college at Cal Poly, and later returned to coach her alma mater. In the mid-1990s, she led the Bulldogs boys cross country team to consecutive top-five state finishes.
All funds from the events are awarded as scholarships in her memory. Coach Janice Kelley was an unforgettable woman. With this event we remember her and show gratitude for her legacy of influencing hundreds (maybe thousands) of runners and lifelong athletes.
