Laura Esterman is an award-winning actress (Obie, Drama Desk, Outer Critics' ) for her work in NY. She trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, later with Uta Hagen, and has taught at Hagen's school for years. Using methods derived from both kinds of training, this class will focus on monologues and/or scenes from modern and classic plays, including Shakespeare if a student wishes. The work will be intense but the atmosphere will be adventurous, fun, and always supportive. Students should have some stage experience, and it is required that each student come to the first class with a speech of ten lines or longer, or a portion of a scene between two students, so that we can jump right into work on the first day. Laura will be happy to talk to anyone who wishes about the choice of a speech or a scene prior to the start of class.
