The Sand Creek Half Marathon, 5K/10K is less than a week away, the 4th of July has come and gone, and soon we'll be running (literally and metaphorically) into fall! So get out early and beat the heat with a great morning run at this inaugural event!
The Kid's Fun Run (free of charge) is about 1/3 of a mile and the kids can then continue running and playing at the great playground located right at the event expo area at Central Park!
Course Time:
Half Marathon - 4 Hours
10K - 2 Hours
5K - 1.5 Hours
The purpose of this event is to introduce you to and give you an opportunity to raise funds for Bluff Lake Nature Center and Sand Creek Regional Greenway, Inc., two nonprofit organizations that support the trails and natural habitat along this phenomenal course. A portion of the proceeds from the event will also be directly donated to these nonprofits.
Bluff Lake Nature Center is a nonprofit agency that owns and manages a unique urban wildlife refuge and outdoor classroom in northeast Denver. The refuge is home to an abundance of animals and native plants, which thrive in a variety of habitats.
Each year, nearly 5,000 area elementary students visit Bluff Lake as part of a formal education program. Thousands of additional visitors come to Bluff Lake to enjoy a few moments of solace and connection to nature.
Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership is a nonprofit, 501 (c)3 organization that, in partnership with Aurora, Commerce City and Denver, seeks to preserve, improve, and promote the natural and recreational resources of the Sand Creek Regional Greenway.
This 14-mile public greenway connects the High Line Canal in Aurora with the South Platte River Greenway in Commerce City. Along the way, it passes through Denver and the Stapleton community.
The Sand Creek Regional Greenway is open every day from dawn until dusk. Runners, walkers, nature viewers, horseback riders, and leashed dogs are encouraged to enjoy the trail.
