Featuring movie clips from Inside/Out and short videos about mindfulness, these activity, relaxation, and mindfulness classes will creatively engage the campers’ imaginations while they learn some basic chill skills. This camp is an introduction relaxation and mindfulness. Campers will learn about the brain’s response to stress and anxiety and skills they can use to relax and refocus. "Kids are growing up with a bombardment of information through technology. We're basically teaching them (with mindfulness) how to calm down the part of the brain that is preventing them from learning how to pay attention," said Congressman Tim Ryan, a champion of mindfulness for children and adults, alike. A regular mindfulness practice has many benefits, including improved attention/focus, better self-regulation, improved sleep, and more compassion. Through play, videos, crafts, and guided stories, the youth will learn simple techniques such as mindful listening, mindful eating, heartfulness, breathing for focus and relaxation, and positive thinking. While this camp is not required in order to participate in the other Chill Skills camps, it will help the camper make the most of the other Chill Skills camps.
