Sprint Triathlon Championship Race: TRI Clubs and Individuals
The Granite Bay Triathlon has long been called the Toughest Sprint Triathlon in California because of the long swim, long run after-swim, tricky bike course and challenging run course.
The 16th Annual Granite Bay Triathlon will be the California Sprint Distance Triathlon Club Championship Race, brought to you by CLIF Bar. Triathlon Clubs can compete for Overall Champions and Fastest Team. Teams will receive one point for each finisher in the Granite Bay Triathlon, plus podium points of 5 points for 1st, 4 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, 2 for 4th and 1 for 5th place in each age group with the First Place Overall Champion Team with the most points will receive $500 plus a Champion Trophy and CLIF Bar prize package. Second place overall will receive $300 plus a runner-up trophy and CLIF Bar prize package and third place overall will get $200 and a CLIF Bar prize package. The Fastest Team, with only the top five male and female finishers counting their podium points, will receive Ten Free Entries into the 2014 Granite Bay Triathlon and a CLIF Bar prize package.
Individual sport primes will be awarded for the fastest swim split, bike split and run split of the 16th Annual Granite Bay Triathlon. The fastest swim split of the day will receive an XTERRA Wetsuit. The fastest bike split of the day (including transition time) will receive a Specialized saddle. The fastest run split of the day will receive a pair of Run Shoes from Fleet Feet Sports.
The race starts from the Granite Beach in Folsom Lake with a .75 mile swim from the beach area. Water temperature should be approximately 56 degrees. Wetsuits are recommended.
The 13-mile bike course is a TWO-LAP course located entirely within the park on roads closed to traffic. The bike course is windy and has several sharp small hills and tight turns. It is STRONGLY recommended that you ride the course ahead of time. Caution is advised on several of the turns as they wind through the hills and oak trees that surround Folsom Lake. After the second loop you will return into the transition area.
The 5-mile run course leaves transition and runs on single-track trails along the lake back towards Beals Point. The out and back course has 3 aid stations that will be stocked with water, electolyte beverage, and energy gels.
Included for each competitor is a custom tech-tee race shirt, a swim cap, athlete goody bag with CLIF Bar and Emerald Nuts product samples.
First place Overall Male and Female in the Granite Bay Triathlon will receive Overall Champion Awards. There will be awards five deep in each five-year age group for the Granite Bay Triathlon.
