What's Included

August 22: 6:30-8:30pm August 23: 9am-7pm August 24: 10am-12pm Join master concrete-carver Elder Jones in this three-day, hands-on sculpture workshop. Participants will learn the technique of wet carving to create their own concrete sculpture or planter about 14 inches high. The process is done while the concrete is still soft so no power tools are required. All materials are provided (those interested will be able to purchase a tool set designed by the artist). Elder Jones is an award-winning artist who carves concrete into sculpture, fountains, and public art projects. A Tennessee native, Elder is the nation’s foremost expert in cement carving, with over 25 years of experience. His art has received national attention on HGTV and in Southern Living Magazine, the San Francisco Examiner, and two books by Sherri Warner Hunter. Elder’s work can be found at La Mesa Gallery of Santa Fe, among others. To view Elder’s work visit

About This Organizer

The Art Center is a community arts organization dedicated to improving quality of life by promoting the enjoyment and understanding of the visual arts and related arts through studio art instruction, educational programs for children and adults, exhibitions and the acquisition, care and display of a permanent art collection.

Inspiring educational classes and a commitment to providing access to art for all people have been at the heart of The Art Center's mission since for over 60 years. "Participatory," "experiential," and "artist-driven" are words that describe the variety of programming from traditional to contemporary offered year round. Everyone can take the creative plunge through educational activities that are free and open to the public or provided at low tuition rates thanks to generous donors and sponsors. You can even apply for one of our need-based scholarship. Everyone should be a part of this vibrant creative community, and now there is no reason not to pick up a brush, a dirty piece of charcoal or even throw a bowl on the potter's wheel. Welcome to The Art Center, where creativity is life altering.

There is a class request list if you do not find what you, your child or teen are looking for. The Art Center holds five class sessions every year in painting, drawing, bookmaking, photography, glass and much more. Our programs seek to inspire individuals of all ages to explore, develop and celebrate their creativity.
