What's Included

In this four-hour workshop, participants will learn how to approach all aspects of the poster design process, from vision and inspiration to layout and execution. The workshop will start with a group exercise to generate ideas, and will then develop into a hands-on brainstorming session for the first hour. The premise will be designing a series of images to promote CO2’s 2017 exhibition. When the time comes to execute ideas, participants will have a choice between using Adobe Illustrator (on provided computers) or hand-made illustration techniques. Group collaboration is encouraged. Whether you’re a graphic expert wanting to apply your skills to a real-life project, or you’re a novice wanting to gain insight into the creative process behind poster design, this workshop is sure to engage your creativity from start to finish. Carlos Zamora graduated from the Instituto Superior de Diseño (ISDI) in 2000. As a designer he worked for the magazines La Gaceta de Cuba, the official publication of the Union for Cuban Writers and Artists; Opus Habana, from the Downtown Havana Restoration Office; Cuba en el Ballet, from the Cuban National Ballet Company; the cigar company, Habanos S.A.; and Casa de las Americas. He moved to the United States in 2006. Three years later, and several exhibits in Seattle, Havana, Munich, Teheran, Madrid, Frankfurt, Lima, Ogaki and Miami, the idea of connecting Cuban designers around the globe landed on Cubacartel, a facebook page created in 2009 as a bilingual space for dialogue regarding contemporary Cuban poster design. He cherishes a fondness for Russian cartoons, propaganda art art and cigars - Cuban or not. Want to see Carlos’ work? Visit
