What's Included

Gregory Botts has painted across the country on his way from NYC each spring to New Mexico and teaching in California to Colorado. He has made blogs titled, Painting Along the Road, since 2008. We will have the experience of painting out of doors, along with the adventure of painting a scene of sublime dimension. We will talk of the possibilities of a further development in the studio. A critique and individual instruction is a part of this experience. The experience and perception of Out of Doors painting and some ideas on its transformational possibilities in the Studio will be the focus of this two day workshop. Gregory Botts believes in the poetic realities found from drawing first hand in nature. The transforming of this found material to him is the stuff of Art. The lineage of Art from Van Gogh and Cezanne to Matisse and Picasso, to American Artists such as Fairfield Porter and Richard Diebenkorn, allow us to see the profundity of Jackson Pollock and Barnett Newman. Their time slides into what nature now might mean for us in Contemporary Art. All levels are welcome. All media is welcome though the focus is on a traditional oil on canvas painting. Gregory Botts has taught regularly at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center, in Colorado, The New York Studio School and National Academy in NY, as well as the University of California at Santa Barbara, California

About This Organizer

The Art Center is a community arts organization dedicated to improving quality of life by promoting the enjoyment and understanding of the visual arts and related arts through studio art instruction, educational programs for children and adults, exhibitions and the acquisition, care and display of a permanent art collection.

Inspiring educational classes and a commitment to providing access to art for all people have been at the heart of The Art Center's mission since for over 60 years. "Participatory," "experiential," and "artist-driven" are words that describe the variety of programming from traditional to contemporary offered year round. Everyone can take the creative plunge through educational activities that are free and open to the public or provided at low tuition rates thanks to generous donors and sponsors. You can even apply for one of our need-based scholarship. Everyone should be a part of this vibrant creative community, and now there is no reason not to pick up a brush, a dirty piece of charcoal or even throw a bowl on the potter's wheel. Welcome to The Art Center, where creativity is life altering.

There is a class request list if you do not find what you, your child or teen are looking for. The Art Center holds five class sessions every year in painting, drawing, bookmaking, photography, glass and much more. Our programs seek to inspire individuals of all ages to explore, develop and celebrate their creativity.
