Held in honor of Derek Sheely, this race is to raise funds for our concussion awareness campaign and The Derek Thomson Sheely Leadership Award, a scholarship awarded to the Frostburg State University junior who exemplifies Derek's leadership, academic, and charitable qualities. The 2nd annual 4-mile out-and-back run and 1-mile walk is at Northwest High School and the neighborhood where Derek grew up. There's a unique stadium start and finish, medals for all finishers, music, and door prizes!
For your convenience, we will have two packet pickup days near the stadium at Northwest High School in Germantown, MD. Packet pickup will be Friday, June 7 from 5-8 pm and Saturday, June 8 from 6:45-7:45 am.
Parking will be available at Northwest High School. The race course will go by the parking lots. Although you will be able to enter the parking lots until the race begins at 8 am, we will start placing cones on the course starting around 7 am. So please plan accordingly.
Medals for all finishers (both runners and walkers)! Prizes for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place overall male and female 4.0-mile race winners! Door Prizes: Your run/walk bib number automatically makes you eligible to win an exciting door prize! You must be present during the awards ceremony to win prizes. Check our website and Facebook page often for updates!
LEAD THE WAY T-shirts are guaranteed for all runners and walkers registered by May 5, 2013. PLEASE NOTE THAT AFTER MAY 5, 2013, T-SHIRTS ARE NOT GUARANTEED!

Should I Run or Walk?
RUNNERS: You must maintain a 15-min/mile pace because we're required to re-open the road to traffic at a certain time. Participants unable to maintain a 15-min/mile pace will be directed to the sidewalk and then must follow normal pedestrian rules at cross streets. WALKERS: You will receive the same benefits as the runners (medals, T-shirts, food, door prizes). A one-mile course for walkers will be marked, but you may walk further if you wish.
Runners will use the rightmost lane of Richter Farm Rd to the 2-mile turnaround and back to the finish. Walkers will use the rightmost lane of Richter Farm Rd to the 0.5-mile turnaround and then will use the jogging path back to the finish. Traffic and safety considerations prohibit wheelchairs, strollers, baby joggers, skates, pets, and headsets.
Advance registration is ONLINE ONLY so that we can offer you a discount and reduce paper waste! Sorry - no refunds.

THE DEREK SHEELY FOUNDATION, a non-profit organization, was created in honor of Derek Thomson Sheely, a strong and healthy 22-year-old honor student who grew up in Germantown, MD, and played fullback and linebacker at Northwest High School and Frostburg State University. Derek wore #40 and was a two-time academic all-conference selection in college and never had a documented concussion. On August 22, 2011, during football practice for his senior season at Frostburg, Derek suffered a traumatic brain injury and died one week later on August 28. The Foundation was created to help prevent other children and families from suffering through the devastating effects of traumatic brain injuries. Please help our mission by supporting this race!
