Usually there will be a skill game of some kind at the beginning of class about 15 minutes. The main class starts with a bow in. Warm-ups take about 7-10 minutes , then basic principles exercises, then various techniques. A technique is shown and explained then students pair up and practice. After some time a halt is called, students sit down and watch the next technique, then pair up and practice the new technique. Depending on the flow of instruction, there may be discussions about balance, simple; geometry, anatomy, psychology, etiquette, mathematics, space, religion, physics all at a very simple level. There are usually water breaks at about 30 minutes. Often there will be another game in the last 10 minutes. Saturday classes are free and follow the same format. As students understand techniques they will receive a colored tape stripe on their belt. When they have amassed all the stripes for the next level and are proficient enough they will be tested for the next level. There is currently no charge for testing. Class ends with a formal bow out and final circle and "Thank You" bow to all partners. Announcements or discussion happens at this time then a final "Good bye" bow and finish.
