Event Description:
The 2012 Run For Mercy 5k/10k will take place on Saturday, April 7 at 8AM, starting at Mill Valley High School in Shawnee, KS. Both the 5k and 10k races are officially-timed, US Track and Field certified courses. The Run For Mercy is the largest fundraiser for Oceans of Mercy, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide hope, life and love to children infected and affected by the AIDS epidemic in South Africa.
The course has low, rolling hills with a large decline in the last half mile toward the finish line. With over 4,000 participants in the past 3 years, the Run For Mercy has grown to be one of the larger events within the Kansas City running community. T-shirts will be provided to race participants, while supplies last.
Hand-made medals from South Africa will be awarded to the top three finishers in each gender category, along with the top finisher in each age group for each gender. The event will also include a silent auction with several items donated from local and national vendors & entertainment providers.
Registration for this year's race will include a post-event Chris Cakes pancake breakfast!
