USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, winter triathlon and aquathlon in the United States. Participation in a USAT sanctioned event means the event director has the proper permits in place, liability and athlete excess medical insurance coverage and the event plan has met the standard of organization required. Brief Description:

The 2.4 mile swim takes place in the Ohio River. The bike course incorporates the City of LaGrange and Oldham County while the run course takes athletes past many of Louisville's signature sites, including its waterfront, University of Louisville campus, Churchill Downs and historic neighborhoods. The race finishes at Fourth Street Live in downtown Louisville. Ironman Louisville will serve as one of the worldwide qualifying events for the 2012 Ironman World Championship.

Ironman Foundation:

$1200.00 USD

Ironman Foundation Slots:

Slots will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and will each cost $1,200.00 USD, which includes athlete registration and a $600.00 tax-deductible donation to The Ironman Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit organization. One hundred percent of all donations made to The Ironman Foundation, Inc. will be distributed to various local organizations and charities based in Louisville. Deferments and/or transfers are NOT permitted.

Withdraw/Refund Policy:

Withdrawal requests must be received in writing via E-mail to Louisville@ironman.com Without exception, all requests must be received on or before July 11, 2012 to be eligible for a partial refund of $150.00 (USD). 2012 Ironman World Championship:

Ironman Louisville will serve as one of the worldwide qualifying events for the 2012 Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i.

USAT:

USA Triathlon will sanction Ironman Louisville. To complete the registration process, athletes will need photo identification and must show proof of current USAT membership or purchase a one-day license ($12.00 USD) during online registration. Race Timing & Cut-Offs:

The race will officially end at midnight, 17 hours after the swim start. Regardless of the athlete's actual start time, the run course and finish line will close at midnight regardless of your swim start time. Athletes who are concerned about not making the bike and run course cut-off times should seed themselves near the front of the swim start line. Aid station stops, transitions, etc., will be included in your total elapsed time. Splits will be recorded for each segment of the race.

Swim Course Summary:

The swim course is a unique, point-to-point swim set in a time-trial fashion (athlete position is first-come, first-serve). Athletes will jump off the dock adjacent to Tumbleweed Southwest Grill to start the event. Athletes will swim around Towhead Island before turning to swim with the current until they reach the finish at the Great Lawn. The swim course will close two hours and 20 minutes after the final athlete enters the water. The final athlete is projected to enter the water by 7:45 a.m.

Swim Cut-off:

Two hours and 20 minutes after the last athlete enters the water.

Bike Cut-Offs:

There is a cut-off at the start of the second loop of the bike course at 2:30 p.m. (approx. mile 60). Any athlete who has not reached the start of the second loop of the bike by 2:30 p.m. will not be permitted to continue. The bike course will close at 6:20 p.m. Athletes arriving at the bike dismount line after 6:20 p.m. will not be permitted to continue.

Run Cut-Offs:

There is a cut-off at the start of the second lap of the run course at 9:45 p.m. Any athlete who has not reached the start of the second loop of the run by 9:45 p.m. will not be permitted to continue. The run course will officially close at midnight.

Event Description:

All athletes must be 18 years of age on race day.
