The Kids' Bicycle Safety Rodeo will be hosted by the certified rodeo trainers of Team Share the Road of Mobile and is open to all 3rd-8th graders. The Bicycle Rodeo includes a series of skills stations directly related to everyday bicycling situations. Participants will practice starting and stopping, the safe way to exit a driveway, how to look for traffic, negotiate an intersection, and avoid common road hazards. For $10, children can participate in the rodeo and afterwards join the Fun Ride/Bicycle Parade to practice their newly acquired skills. If pre-registered by October 15th, children will also receive a t-shirt, pizza and drink. For pre-registration, go to www.BaldwinBicycleFest.com and download the registration form. Rodeo Time: 9-11:15 a.m.
The Vintage Tweed Ride, a leisurely touring ride with many cyclists in period costumes and riding vintage bikes, is hosted by the Slow Bicycle Society on the Eastern Shore. The route includes historic downtown Foley and nearby residential neighborhoods. This slow-paced ride includes a complimentary T-shirt if registered by October 15th, late morning participation in the Kids' Fun Ride/Bicycle Parade, a BYO Picnic in the Park, and the Vintage Tweed Ride on Foley's streets, through parks, and along local sidewalks. The Vintage Ride will stop and tour the Holmes Medical Museum with ice cream to follow at Stacey's Old Tyme Soda Fountain. Costumes encouraged! Vintage Tweed Ride Start: 2:00 p.m.
The 3 mile Fun Ride/Bicycle Parade is a celebration by and for bicyclists of all ages. The ride will be led by leaders from across Baldwin County, followed by participating children, parents, adult cyclists, and bicycle patrol units from Foley, Fairhope, Orange Beach, and Gulf Shores Police Departments. Any skill level can participate. For those who wish to bicycle, the ride can be as short as a half mile along the Rose Trail, or as long as 3 miles along the escorted parade route. Others are welcome to walk, or take advantage of our park train or an available pedi-cab to ride in the parade. Parade Start: 11:30 a.m.
All registered participants in the Tour de Foley, Kids' Bicycle Safety Rodeo, Vintage Tweed Ride, and Fun Ride/Bicycle Parade, are invited to join our leaders in the Fun Ride/Bicycle Parade. Cyclists not registered in one of the other rides, kids not participating in the Bicycle Rodeo, and anyone wishing to be a part of this fun event can register for the Fun Ride/Bicycle Parade on Active.com or at Day-of Registration in the Park. Note that a parent or legal guardian must register on Active.com for any child under 18. Also note that T-shirts can only be guaranteed for participants whose registrations are received by October 15th via Active.com.
Participants are welcome and encouraged to decorate their bikes in a SAFE and fun style. Non-registered parents and Fest-goers are welcome to cheer riders and celebrate bicycling as the parade rolls down the Foley Rose Trail.
