Follow Team First Triathlon's Progress

Let's be honest, most of these folks are already pretty active, but none of them has ever attempted a triathlon. Preparing the team for the race will be the job of Olympic coach Gale Bernhardt. Sign up for your first triathlon, train with the team, and follow this group--a hiker, a runner, a soccer player and an action sports athlete--as they prove you can do anything you put your mind to—including a triathlon.

Kirsten

After hiking the 2,663-mile Pacific Crest Trail, Kirsten wants to keep up her fitness by training for her first triathlon.

Javier

Originally from Peru, Javier has lived in the U.S. for seven years. He's already active in soccer, basketball and football, but he's out to prove that he can do a triathlon too.

Steve

The mountains in Utah create the training ground Steve needs to prepare for Wildflower. But they won't help get him ready for the swim, which he says will be his biggest challenge.

Mike

Although Mike has tried everything from flag football to motorcycle racing, he's never done an endurance race. This training may be just what he needs to fuel his competitive nature.

Gale Bernhardt, The Coach

Gale has coached athletes since 1974. She is certified as an Elite Coach by USA Cycling and a Level III Coach by USA Triathlon. She has served as the Chairperson for the National Coaching Committee for USA Triathlon for five consecutive years and is one of only a few, select USA Triathlon World Cup coaches. Gale also traveled to Athens, Greece as the 2004 USA Triathlon Olympic Coach for both the men's and women's teams. With the long list of pro athletes Gale has coached, getting these rookies in shape for their first triathlon will be a piece of cake. More »
