Do an Upper Body Stretch Routine

Upper-body stiffness is all too common on a long road trip. Try these simple stretches to loosen up your arms and shoulders. Hold each stretch for 25 to 30 seconds and repeat 2 to 3 times.

Shoulders: Stand up, reach your arms behind your back and interlock your fingers. Lower your upper body down slowly as you bring your hands up toward your head.

Neck: Roll your neck through a full clockwise rotation, a full counter-clockwise rotation, and repeat three times for each round.

Arms: Stand up and "windmill" your arms forward for five rotations, then backward for five rotations.

Do a Lower Body Stretch Routine

Sitting for long periods of time can make your lower body sore and stiff. Use these stretches to release some of that sitting tension.

Calves: Stand next to your car, put your right foot up against the tire and lean forward, putting pressure on the ball of your right foot. Repeat on the left side.

Hips: While standing, slightly bend your left knee and raise your right foot, resting your right ankle on your left knee. Gently push on your right knee, so you can feel a stretch through your glutes and hips. Repeat on the other side.

Ankles: While standing on your left foot, slightly raise your right foot off the ground and rotate your ankle clockwise and counter clockwise. Repeat on the other side.
