How to Stay Motivated to Lose Weight

4: Turn Your Focus towards Someone Else

Every effort you put into your training will help lead you to an amazing race day experience. To relieve jitters and get through through every mile, divert your mind to something else.  Instead of setting a pressured time goal, go for merely finishing the race. Maybe reward yourself, if you cross the finish line, treat yourself to a spa day.

The Mind and Body Fit Club has a group or women that race together. They have an objective at each race; each girl is given ten or so rubber bracelets that are custom printed with an inspirational message. They state, "I AM STRONG. I HAVE COURAGE. I SHOW UP TO MY LIFE. I GOT THIS." The mission is to be aware of those around them that need extra encouragement. The rules are: give them a hug or a pat on the back, read them the words from the bracelet and then assist them in placing it on their wrist. The 'pay it forward moment' is often met with tears bursting from the participants eyes, or a big "Thank you, I needed that".

Giving out motivation during your race will not only deflect your attention away from your own aches and pains, it provides a higher level of inspiration, knowing you made a difference in another person's race experience.

Another method for infusing a soulful spirit into your stride is signing up to race with a favorite or chosen charity. Racing to further a cause can showcase your respect for the fight of others or connect you with a beloved family member or friend.

Decide that your dieting days are done. Think of the process as a journey, and deepen the experience with acts that shift the way your mind and emotions respond to challenge.
