Brief Description

Strength training prepares the body for the rigors of training and racing. This workshop will help you realize the benefits of strength training including how you can combat factors that contribute to overuse injuries, encourage bone health and counteract muscle imbalances. Strength training can also boost lactate tolerance, improve economy of movement, assist in delaying fatigue, and may help bridge the metabolic gap between swimming, biking, and running.

Topic covered

This 2-hour clinic will cover: (1) How to periodize strength training for multisport (2) Setting training goals specific to the time of the year; (3) How to make strength training a priority; (4) How to choose an appropriate workout venue; (5) How to piggyback workouts; (6) How to distribute and establish time blocks; (7) How to train like an athlete; (8) How to pair, triple, or complex exercises; (9) How to make use of rest time between intervals; (10) What equipment you need for a home gym.

Instructors

This workshop will be led by USAT Level II Coach Ali Winslow of Boston Performance Coaching (BPC) and Victor A. Brown, USAT Level I Coach and current Associate Strength and Conditioning Coach at Boston University.

Included in the price of registration

Each workshop participant will receive a bio foam roller, mini exercise band, and DVD with the training exercises covered during the session.

Time and Location

This 2-hour workshop begins promptly at 8:00am on Saturday, 3/20, and will be held in the Media Room on the first floor of the Zesiger Sports & Fitness Center just around the corder from the Au Bon Pain and down the hall from the expo.
