What's Included

You won’t find such a quality week of summer camp for such an agreeable price anywhere else! We want youth and teens from Gresham to play an active role in the local planning process. We also believe that every family / kid should be able to afford to go to a local summer day-camp. Neighborhood PLACE guides the involvement of youth from a given neighborhood in activating underutilized open spaces for summer recreational and educational purposes. PLACE teaches waste reduction curriculum, basic land use practices and community livability. PLACE encourages youth to take on stewardship roles within their local natural areas after camp, and aims to inspire greater sensations of community belonging and ownership. PLACE is in some ways like other traditional summer programs offering a safe, structured and entertaining venue for youth. It is however in many ways unlike other day-camps by offering a full week for only a $25 registration fee (which includes the participant’s program T-shirt). PLACE is also unique in that Tsuga Staff bring programming into a local area that is often more accessible to families than a brick and mortar program located outside their community. One of the most special and lasting components of the PLACE program is the community site improvement project that leaves a positive relic of local youth service. Early drop-off and late pick-up options available as needed. Environmental Education | Field Games | Team Building Challenges | Arts and Crafts | Community Planning | Service Learning

About This Organizer

Tsuga Community Commission (TCC) is an Oregon 501-C-3 Nonprofit organization. TCC was founded in 2008 to serve as a social entrepreneurship initiative to build community capacity and social capital between and within Oregon youth communities. TCC conducts and responds to needs assessments identifying opportunities in youth development and community enhancement to build custom residential camp programming with complimentary professionals and collaborative organizations to produce sustainable social capital networks.

Summer is the most exciting and fun season each year, and summer camp is certainly a fun and exciting place to be! We know that camp is fun all on its own, and that our responsibilty to create the sense of place and purpose associated with all that positive energy. Camp is more than a place to have fun, but also a venue where new and existing communities can form their shared identity, create tradition, and build social capital. Residential camp facilities provide an ideal venue for families, neighborhoods, and emerging concept communities to meet, participate in open discourse, and build a set of community goals.

Participants in TCC programming leave camp knowing that they not only fit into a group, but that they developed that group and its shared values. The sense of belonging they feel to a place and time they helped create stays with them for years after camp and and stands as a most important moment in their early lives.
