Gale Bernhardt traveled to Athens, Greece as the 2004 USA Triathlon Olympic Coach for both the men's and women's triathlon teams. This honor was in addition to the selection by USA Triathlon as the 2003 Pan American Games Coach for both the men's and women's teams.
Gale has instructed or coached athletes since 1974. She has a BS degree from Colorado State University, is certified as an Elite Coach by USA Cycling and a Level III Coach by USA Triathlon. She was among the first, small, group of Level III coaches certified. She has served as the Chairperson for the National Coaching Committee for USA Triathlon for five consecutive years and is one of only a few, select USA Triathlon World Cup coaches.
Gale uses her education and experience to help endurance athletes
meet their race-related goals. Athletes utilizing her personal
guidance include Olympic and professional cyclists; top national-level
masters road racers, ultra-endurance cyclists, runners and multisport
racers. Her athletes have placed at Olympic Trials and National
Championships. She has coached multisport athletes to podium finishes
at world championship events and others have traveled to the Hawaii
Ironman competition.
Whether you are training to complete an event or compete at an
event, you can use the same training principles that elite athletes
use to improve your fitness. Pre-built plans are available for
several different race distances and athletic goals.
She is a regular columnist for several print and online magazines.
For example, she has articles in, but not limited to, Triathlete,
the Active.com newsletters ( Triathlete, Cyclist, Insider, Runner
and Women) Inside Triathlon, Rocky Mountain Sports and Fitness
and the VeloNews Gear Guide.
She is recognized as an endurance exercise authority, with interviews
in Outside, Runner's World, Bicycling, Her Sports, USA Today, Muscle
and Fitness, HERS for Women, Newsday and Cooking Light to name
a few.
Her books, The Female Cyclist: Gearing Up a Level and Training
Plans for Multisport Athletes are best sellers. Her third book,
Triathlon Training Basics released in 2004 is the most recent hot-selling
book nationally and internationally, going to foreign book rights
very quickly.
She created the Workouts in a Binder® product and co-authored
the first edition of swim workouts for triathletes, which quickly
sold-out four printings. These handy workout cards help athletes
and coaches optimize workouts and are waterproof to prevent destruction
from water, sweat and dirt. This product line expanded in 2005
and there are plans to add more Workouts in a Binder® products.
