About SafeHomes of Augusta
SafeHomes started in 1979 with a group of women in Augusta assisting other women who were victims of domestic violence. The group quickly learned that domestic violence was a bigger community issue than they thought when starting out.
In 1983, SafeHomes opened a shelter that served 80 women in the first year. Two years later, the organization served more than 500 women. Today, SafeHomes offers numerous programs and services to victims and their children in addition to the shelter. The organization helps more than 1,000 individuals every year.
