In this Year of Faith, Pope Benedict XVI stated that ?we must rediscover a taste for feeding ourselves on the word of God, faithfully handed down by the Church? (Porta Fidei, 3).? The ancient practice of Lectio Divina, or divine reading, inherited from the Jewish tradition and further developed by the early Christians is one of the most effective ways to read Scripture.? The prayerful approach to the sacred text, according to the Church, must be ?a fundamental element in the spiritual life of every believer? (Verbum Domini, 86).? This retreat will teach the essential elements of the method with a view towards personal application for our life. Through this prayer we will experience a personal encounter with God that transforms our entire life.? We will also explore how to share what has been received in prayer with others through small group parish communities.
