Participate in this marine engineering course developed by the Office of Naval Research and the MIT Sea Grant Program. Learn how to build a simple remotely operated vehicle (ROV) constructed of PVC pipe, including a propulsion system and tethered controller. Investigate concepts of buoyancy submarine design and ocean exploration while learning construction techniques including soldering, frame assembly, wiring, and waterproofing thrusters. Scientific applications involve biological sampling and water sampling with Sea Perch units. Participants will each take home the ROV they built.
