What's Included

Dive into this unique “hands-on” introduction to Marine Archaeology and careers in Oceanography based upon the Nautical Archaeological Society standards. Discover local shipwreck locations and current projects, the history of shipwrecks in the Lake Erie basin and examine related artifacts. Experience and participate in field excavation, chart plotting, SCUBA principles, underwater robot operation aboard a research vessel and a trip to the Erie Maritime Museum. Project STEAR is an educational program developed to compliment the Pennsylvania Archaeology and Shipwreck Survey Team (PASST). Participants will learn standard skills used in the identification, research, preservation and conservation of Pennsylvania’s Maritime History and submerged cultural resources. Drop off and pick up take place at TREC on M,T,TH and the Maritime Museum on W, F.
