Description

Designed for experienced mental health practitioners, this workshop will address 1) important ethical issues in clinical practice that extend beyond the fundamentals and 2) making ethical decisions in challenging contexts.  Dr. Koocher will discuss ethical challenges: in case management from the individual practitioner and agency perspectives; with diverse/vulnerable populations; in training and supervision; in an evolving health care system, including telehealth and technology mediated services; and in inter-professional work settings. 

Course Objectives: 

As a result of participating in this course, participants will be able to:

• Demonstrate an advanced working knowledge of ethical principles central to professional activity in mental health practice.

• Identify and analyze cases and problem situations in the context of ethical, legal, and professional practice standards.

• Discuss ethical challenges and propose solutions consistent with ethical standards and good risk management practices.

• Recognize challenges associated with assessment and treatment in a rapidly changing technological environment

Gerald P. Koocher, Ph.D., Professsor of Psychology and Associate Provost at Simmons College, has an international reputation for expertise in professional and scientific ethics.
