BreakView
provides workshops that create learning through dynamic
discussion and hands-on experience.
The workshop’s facilitators will lead you
through a series of dynamic discussions and practice sessions. This proven
format maximizes both the amount learned and the likelihood that you will
successfully apply the course content.
All participants receive an 80 page workbook for easy reference. In
addition, the format conveys the course information through group discussions,
role play and several audio-visual segments.
The training session is divided into three parts,
Awareness, Analysis and
Action.
The Awareness and
Analysis sections will create a strong understanding among participants
of their unconscious insensitivity. Self-awareness is an important step
towards developing culturally sensitive practice. No one enters the work force
with a blank slate. We all have our own perspective, attitudes and biases,
colored by life experiences and our membership in many different groups.
Because our views affect our interaction with clients, it is important to
bring them into conscious awareness. The goal of the introspective process is
to aid participants in working with “others” outside their comfort zone.
The Action section provides participants with
tools to communicate effectively in a supportive and sensitive manner in order
to deliver the highest service possible.
The workshop closes with participants developing their own
Personal Action
Plan in order to solidify a commitment to culturally sensitive practice. An
Action Plan is a list of tasks that you have to carry out to achieve an
objective. It differs from a To Do List in that it focuses on the achievement
of a single goal. Wherever and whenever you want to achieve something, draw up
an action plan. This allows you to concentrate on the stages of that
achievement, and monitor your progress towards it. The personal action plan
will enable you to put theory into practice with concrete links incorporating
specific aspects of the workshop into the planning process.
