ABOUT THE SOUTHERN NEVADA WRITING PROJECT:
The SNWP has been working with Southern Nevada teachers and students since 1984 as part of a network of over 200 National Writing Project sites. In the last ten years, SNWP Youth Writing Fairs have impacted over 3000 students and 200 teachers. As a non-profit professional development organization, we serve teachers of writing at all grade levels and in all subject areas. The mission of the SNWP is to impact student learning by improving the teaching of writing, thereby promoting a vision that every person is an engaged and life-long writer.
CAMP INFORMATION:
Our emphasis is on creating life-long writers who feel confident and comfortable with all the steps of the writing process. This is not a remedial or accelerated writing course. Students of all ability levels will engage in various types of authentic writing activities to challenge them to grow as writers. Our instructors are SNWP Teacher Consultants selected for their expertise and passion for teaching writing.
WHO MAKES A GOOD CANDIDATE?
Our most successful students are those who are eager to try their hand at new types of writing and who really LOVE to write! Skill level is not as important as the desire to write. Camp participants will spend several hours a day writing and learning about writing; therefore, if your child is not interested in writing, this is probably not the camp for her/him. (Unacceptable behavior will result in immediate dismissal from the writing camp without tuition refund.)
COST:
$250.00 per student; pay online via credit card or mail money order made payable to SNWP. $50 discount if 2 or more siblings attend. Early Bird Special: $225 through March 23. This includes all necessary supplies, snacks, a t-shirt, and anthology of student writing.
