Since 2000, Classroom Matters has helped thousands of students achieve their academic goals. We provide academic support and mentoring to students is grades K-12, with an emphasis on study skills. We customize our services to meet the individual needs of our students; there is no one-size-fits-all appraoch. We work with families all over the Bay Area at our center, at school sites and in students' homes. In addtion to individual and small group tutoring, we have developed a highly effective after school homework support program called Supervised Study, which reinforces valuable study habits. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Research has shown that the ability to recognize words in print is a significant factor in the beginning stages of reading. Students will work one-on-one with a reading tutor to develop word recognition strategies in a fun and engaging environment. Students will learn phonics as well as the most common sight words in the English language to boost reading abilities and self-confidence. Along with systematic phonics and sight word instruction, students will also learn reading comprehension strategies to improve their ability to understand the concepts of what they read. At the end of the twelve sessions, parents will receive a formal summary and assessment of the student’s strengths and weaknesses in reading.

This workshop is designed to introduce students to the major concepts that are practiced in Geometry–a very different kind of math than they may be used to. The emphasis for the workshop will be on learning vocabulary, understanding and writing proofs and executing basic constructions, which will be explored through the following topics: coordinate/plane Geometry, triangles and quadrilaterals.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This workshop is designed for students going into Algebra 2 (from Geometry) and is a comprehensive review of key concepts of basic algebra that will ease the transition from Geometry into Algebra 2.
Topics include algebraic properties, solving for variables, exponents and roots, absolute value, solving inequalities, graphing linear equations, solving systems of equations, simplifying and factoring polynomials and quadratic functions.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Biology can be very difficult for some students. This six-day intensive workshop will introduce them to the major topics covered in the course, teach them how to read a Biology text, take effective notes and prepare for exams. Students entering AP or IB level Biology will find this to be a good review.
Topics include: biochemistry, cellular biology, classification, genetics and evolution, ecology and body systems.
